Elsewhere, Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham host King Charles III: The Coronation on ITV from 8.30am, while Anna Botting and Kay Burley lead Sky News’ coverage of the Coronation itself, with commentary by Alastair Bruce, from 9am. Kirsty Young leads the coverage, with Huw Edwards in the commentary box and Sophie Raworth, Anita Rani and JJ Chalmers among others placed around the Abbey and surrounding streets. Other TV providers are available, of course, but Auntie’s coverage tends to be unbeatable on these big state occasions, airing on BBC One (BBC Two with signing) for almost eight hours in three sections covering the preparations and arrivals at Westminster Abbey (7.30am), the Coronation itself (10.15am) and the celebrations afterwards (1pm) as the freshly crowned King and Queen return to Buckingham Palace for the traditional balcony appearance and Coronation Procession. And the corporation is throwing vast resources at covering the Coronation of King Charles to ensure that it makes for an equally memorable TV event. The 1953 Coronation was one of the first great live televised events, boosting the BBC’s reputation alongside that of the new young Queen.
